#ROW80 and Life Updates

This has been the week of the migraine!

I don’t know if it’s the weather, or what’s been going on, but I’ve had a headache all week!  I’m NOT sick.  Sinuses seem OK.  Bah!  The thing is, I don’t normally get headaches, and especially not the light-sensitive variety, which is what I have.  I’ve been taking better care of myself, trying to keep my immune system healthy.  I was only sick once last year.  This headache nonsense is VERY unusual for me.  I don’t like it.  It makes it rough to be productive.  Plus, I’m having some VERY goofy dreams.  Ya-da, ya-da, ya-da…  If I can push my way past the pain, I’m good.  That’s what I’ve been doing.  If I can keep busy enough, I don’t have time to think about it, and I can ignore the pounding.  It’s amazing what you can ignore if you’re stubborn enough.  I’m exceptionally stubborn!

The lovely people I work with are hilarious.  They’ve been feeding me a steady supply of caffeinated beverages to help curb the pain, and we’ve named my migraine Gary…because….well, why not!  Nobody wants me to turn into the person who gets migraines, and by naming it Gary, we can all live in denial.  Fun stuff!  Reality has NO place in my world.  🙂

My boss handed this to me at work a couple of days ago, in case anyone gave me a hard time while I'm not feeling 100%. I haven't had to open it up...yet. Did I mention how helpful my coworkers are? Yeah... I think EVERYONE needs their very own can of "Woopass!" LOL

As far as word count goes…well, I did get in some writing on my WIP since Wednesday.  I got in 840 words in on Friday and I did a little writing on Saturday, but I didn’t keep track of the count.  I didn’t do a Blogophilia post.  I just wasn’t able to tap very deeply into my creativity.  We’ll see how I feel tomorrow.  Maybe by then, Gary will be ready to move on!

You can check on the other ROW80 folks by using this “linky.”

I did a LOT of reading this week.  I love to read.  If I can’t write, I read.  No, the headaches are NOT from eyestrain.  Headache came first.  😛

I got out for a little fun this weekend.  If I’m going to have a headache anyways, I might as well go out and have it, rather than sit around at home!  Hubby took me to see the new Underworld movie.  I loved it so much, I can’t wait to see it again.  🙂

We went as a family to the Plymouth Ice Spectacular, in Plymouth, Michigan.  I’ll post up pics of that later this week.

I forced myself to go outside and take pics of the creek near my home.  I wanted to get in some shots before the snow thaws again.  The temps have been dipping  down into the single digits at night but it’s supposed to warm up by Monday.  There’s so much beauty at this time of year.  I love seeing everything covered in a blanket of white.  I was outside for close to an hour, checking out nature at her finest.

Enough whining or I’ll need a large wedge of cheese to go with!  He! He!

Have a great day!

Juli

  1. Well, Gary, doesn’t seem to have slowed you down much. Motivated and good attitude show through your writing. Kudo’s on that.

Love the big can of woopass, very cool. And yes, we could all use a can of that from time to time.

Hope the coming week is great one (and that Gary moves on to other pastures).

  2. Great work, Have you tried amyptriptiline to kick Gary’s to the kerb once and for all? I used to be plagued by Gary’s on an almost none ending basis, no sooner had one cleared than another came along. Then I got put on 10mg of amyptirptiline each night and have probably only had one full blown Gary in the last 4 years! The improvement is beyond what I ever dreamed possible! Anyway, hope Gary has left you now so you can have a great week! 😀

    1. Thanks for the advice. I don’t normally get headaches…at all. This is highly unusual for me. I’m a little reluctant to mask what’s going on with drugs. If they continue, I’ll probably see a doctor to rule out something serious. As much as I joke around about stuff and as stubborn as I am, I’m not unaware that drastic physical changes, in general, are NOT a good thing. I’ll ride it out a little longer first. If my headaches get worse, I’ll see a doctor. Thanks for dropping by!

  3. Are you wearing sunglasses when you go outside? You may just be sensitive to light right now (snow glare might not be helping…). If it’s light triggered, can you lower your screen glare? Do you have fluorescent lights around you at work? If so, can you turn them off? (turns out the fluorescent lights cause extra strain on your eyes…who knew?) All these were suggestions from a neurologist, and they helped me!

Sounds like you had a very productive week despite Gary! That can of whoopass might just come in handy on him. 😀

I hope you get your pictures before the thaw! Have a wonderful week.

    Keep Writing!

    1. I have several layers of protection on the glasses that I wear. There’s a scratch resistant coating, an anti-glare coating, and my glasses darken in response to UV light. I’ve had to wear eyeglasses for 30+ years, so I get all the bells and whistles.

I can’t turn off the florescent lights at work, or we’d all be in the dark! 🙂 Florescent lights have never bothered me before. Snow has never been an issue in the past. I live in Michigan. There’s snow on the ground for a good five months out of the year.

I appreciate the comments, but quite honestly, I haven’t had a headache like this in MANY, many years. I know it’s hard to believe, but I don’t usually get headaches. I try to stay away from all medications as much as possible. My blood pressure tends to run low. I had a mild cold once in 2011. That was the only time I got sick.

All things being equal, the simplest solution is usually the right one. No other variables have changed in my life but the weather has been up and down like a roller coaster, so that’s probably where I should place the blame. Maybe something is going on in one of my sinus cavities. I don’t feel congested at all, but who knows? Maybe something’s not draining right and that’s causing pressure to build? Without going into worse case mode, I tend to think it’s in my frontal sinuses. The pain is in my forehead, and I have been light sensitive, but there’s no feeling of pressure near my eyes.

I have a high pain tolerance, so something needs to be falling off of me before I’m willing to do something about it. LOL I’ll let it ride unless the pain gets significantly worse. Pain is the body’s way of telling you, “Hello? Something’s wrong over here!” I feel uncomfortable masking that warning unless I absolutely have to.

  4. I hope Gary is taking the hint and getting ready to leave town for good!!
Sounds like you made progress even when not at your best and that has got to feel good.
Hey I’m not that far from you, just about 1.5 hrs to the west on I-94, that’s cool. Per usual our weather has been interesting. The snow falls last week were so very pretty, I was getting lost in them

    1. That is cool! Hello neighbor!!! 🙂 I took LOTS of pics on Sunday. I’ve been busy scheduling them so I can post them throughout the week.

I actually feel much better this afternoon than I did this morning. Thank you! I think it’s the weather that was bugging me. I can’t remember when we’ve had such a crazy January here in MI! Take care!

  5. It’s not the caffeine is it? *hides in terror*

I found energy drinks have a reverse effect on my if I have them more than once every few weeks. I’ve gone off them lately and feel better for it.

Gary could also be the result of tension. That’s where my headaches of late come from.

    1. I don’t drink energy drinks. This can of Woopass was more of a joke. I don’t know if I could survive without my coffee! LOL The weather changed again. I feel MUCH better today, better than I have in a week! I think it was the changes in pressure.

      Thanks for stopping by! 🙂

  6. Hope you’re feeling better!

This may be a pointless thought, but have you tried eye drops? When my eyes get dry they make my head hurt really bad. In fact the doctors used to diagnose me with migraines until one caught on to my dry eyes. haven’t had any problems since. Anyway, dry eyes can just be from the dry air in doors, especially happens in winter and all. As I said, just a random thought. 😉

I’m ashamed to admit how little I have done all week :p

    1. Hope you’re feeling better too!

That’s actually something to look into. I’ve had issues with dry eyes in the past, but I didn’t know that could cause migraine-like symptoms. I can’t wear contacts because my eyes get too dried out. I tried a few different ones designed for dry eyes, but no matter what I did, I couldn’t wear them. Instead, I’ve enjoyed 30+ years worth of glasses…but only for seeing, and sometimes for hearing too! LOL I’m not a fan of taking medication, so if saline drops helped…well shoot! That would be fantastic!!! Thanks Jo!!!! 🙂 I wrote myself a note to pick some up tomorrow. They can’t hurt!

These past few days haven’t been very productive for me either. Plus, I was REALLY crabby at work today. I “might” have answered a snotty comment with, “I would have been faster, but I left my magic wand at home.” Yeah…I probably should have bit my tongue, especially when I was later asked, “Are you trying to be sarcastic?” and I answered, “No, not at all. I really don’t have it with me!” *BIG grin on my face.* Bad Juli! Sigh… It’s not always easy to stay on my better behavior. 😉

      Take care, Jo!
