The Scandalous Sisterhood of Prickwillow Place written by Julie Berry was published back in September of 2014.
While this book is written for children in sixth grade and older, I can’t say it’s an “educational” story—not unless you’re looking to teach your daughters how to (un)successfully hide a body (or two) in Victorian England.
Even still, I thoroughly enjoyed this book!
The young ladies in this novel are witty and fun. The action is non-stop, in a Lemony Snicket sort of way. I couldn’t wait to see how it would end.
This cozy murder mystery is like a chocolate pudding pie with extra whipped cream—no nutritional value, not too heavy, but absolutely delicious! I’d certainly read more books by Julie Berry.

I, too, find some of my favorite books in the Young Adults section. I constantly re-read (and listen to) Fly by Night by Frances Hardinge. It’s set in a sort of “alternate universe” 18th century — very completely imagined; Mosca, the central character is a shrewd, unique voice. This is not just another “girl who reads” book, and Hardinge’s wit reminds me of another favorite author, Jane Austen. E.g., while two adults are negotiating, Mosca hears “the unmistakable sound of something not being said.” (That’s a remembered quote from the sequel, Twilight Robbery, aka Fly Trap.)
